I have only ever really explored two or three other landscape setups and I know there are other good options out there including mods that would pack similar changes all into one. Here are the rest of the landscape textures I use.

Then when that is dialed in, if you want, change out grass mods so you can see what does or doesn't look good or effect performance without wondering if maybe it's the grass or maybe not. A good method I would suggest is to throw Lore Grass near the top of your load order and forget about it while you find what landscape, mountains, and forest mods you like best, and so you won't have to see the hideous vanilla grass textures. One of the things Lore grass has going for it is it has sparse coverage, which means you can actually see the landscape textures that you are using. Maybe the perfect grass mod is still out there. :) There is a shorter height version of it that I need to check out that might be perfect. However it makes the player level forest so much like being in the actual bush it might not be the ideal situation for a first jaunt through Skyrim. This mod will definitely give you the most realistic forest understory and at less performance cost than I expected. An awesome grass mod that only effects the ground cover in the spruce-fir forest is Origins of Forest. Some are amazing looking, like Voluptuous, but kill my frame rate. Some are lush but make the entire ground cover look like an overgrown golf course. Dense high end grass mods I have tried have hurt performance more than any other kind of mods. This mod just re-textures the vanilla grass without any impact on performance. Renthal's Flora Collection or Mari's Flora AIOĪnd part of the look of a forest is the grass layer which for me I found the best mod to be Lore Realistic Grass Dark. SFO/DFoS/Trees Addon LOD PATCH (you will not get the LOD for Valhalla Rift but that is a necessary compromise to get the LOD everwhere else) I'm on XB1X for reference.Īn example of how it worked for me is what I find to be the best forest combination: However, for whatever reason my brain gravitated to a modular setup for textures. There are many good all in one packs that provide landscape textures and some that also include flora and other things.

Namely making the forest and landscape as alive and excellent looking as possible. I went into Skyrim modding with a lot of similar goals.
